CHART win Top Awards
The Chiltington Area Response Team (CHART) won two top awards, after being nominated in three categories, at a Community Responder’s awards presentation at Hickstead Park, in mid April. The event, was organised by the South East Coast (Paramedic) Ambulance Service (SECAmb) to give recognition to the many Community Responder schemes that have been organised across the south east of England, a leading region in the country, for responder teams.
Although only becoming operational less than one year ago, the award for Best
Community Responder Scheme - 2007 was presented to West Chiltington’s
CHART organisation. The individual award for the Community Responder
Scheme, 2007 - Best Medical Co-ordinator
was presented to CHART’s Alison
Neave. Alison is responsible for
organising fortnightly training meetings
of CHART Responders to ensure that their skills and operational performance is kept to the highest
standards.
In addition to these two awards, a Certificate of
Commendation was presented to the West Chiltington medical emergency charity
for its commitment to the SECAmb emergency response procedures.
In another award category - Medical Care Provided in Difficult
Situations - CHART’s Pat and Dennis Harris were included with two other nominated
responders from other parts of the region. The nomination of Pat and Dennis was in recognition of the care they provided,
over an extended period, while attending a life-threatening paediatric emergency,
in West Chiltington.
Since becoming operational in August, 2006, the value of CHART, in the local community, has been amply demonstrated by having responded, freely, to nearly 70 medical emergencies, many of which were life-threatening. To help maintain this valuable free service, the CHART charity depends upon receiving regular donations and it urges local residents to give their support to this worthy cause.

"A Great night, with everyone joining in the fun" and £3,000-plus donated, was the outcome of the CHART, charity "black-tie" dinner and auction held at the West Sussex Golf Club, at the end of January. More than 70 people turned out to support the fund raising effort.
The auction, was ably helped-on by guest auctioneer, Jimmy Hill, the TV personality and former professional footballer. The auction participants generously helped raise over £3,000 in bids for the 21 valuable items donated by local people and organisations. The bids, for gifts which included a dinner with Mile Gatting, the last English cricket captain to win the Ashes in Australia, which was donated by the Old Forge Restaurant in Storrington, as well as balloon and glider flights. These, along with other financial contributions, helped CHART raise approximately £3,200 from the evening's event.
"It was a financial and social success, beyond our expectations and we have to thank the generosity of the donors of the gifts and the enthusiastic support of the all the those attending the dinner, as well as the hard work of the organising group, said CHART Chairman, Gil Carr. "All the funds raised will go toward supporting our worthwhile local, life-saving charity", he said.
