Public Access Defibrillators

CHART has also set up a number of Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) within its area to provide vital life saving equipment to the public.  These PADs can be used by any member of the public if they find a person unconscious and unable to breath.  After quickly checking the airway for any blockage, the PAD can be opened and the user will be given spoken instructions on the how to use the equipment.

While these devices can seem a little intimidating at first, they provide all the instructions required for any member of the public to attempt to revive a patient.

Would you like to be a First Responder?

There are no pre-requisite skills required. Volunteers will receive all necessary initial training from South East Coast Ambulance Service, and CHART first responders meet together monthly to share experiences and receive training and news updates.

The minimum commitment required is 4 or 5 hours a week, when you would be on call from your own home.
