The Chiltington Area Response Team was originally set up to provide First Responder  “cover” for the South East Coast Ambulance Service, within the area of the West Chiltington Parish Council but including the village of Nutbourne and the hamlets of North Heath and Mare Hill, which are within the area administered by the Pulborough Parish Council and up to the boundary with Storrington, to the south.

Following the launch of the scheme, the ambulance service has occasionally asked CHART to attended emergency response calls that have arisen in a wider area of Pulborough. Since then, a formal request has been made by the Ambulance Service asking CHART if it would extend its coverage to include the Pulborough area, which, currently, is not part of any First Responder programme. Having previously agreed to provide emergency cover to the adjacent village of Nutbourne, the CHART Trustees have now agreed that we should also meet this recent NHS request.  Responders will normally attend the locations that the Ambulance Service send them to, these are usually within a 3 mile radius of their base.

Would you like to be a First Responder?

There are no pre-requisite skills required. Volunteers will receive all necessary initial training from South East Coast Ambulance Service, and CHART first responders meet together monthly to share experiences and receive training and news updates.

The minimum commitment required is 4 or 5 hours a week, when you would be on call from your own home.

If you are interested or have further questions, please contact CHART
